The climate of Himachal Pradesh depends upon the geographical factors like its location in the Himalayan mountain ranges, level of elevation (height/altitude of the area), latitudinal position, etc. The climate of the state is divided into various climatic zones. Climatic Zones of Himachal Pradesh The state is divided into six climatic zones which are given below:

 i. Sub-humid Sub-tropical Zone :-This zone covers Una and Sirmaur districts and some parts of Kangra district with a mean annual temperature of 24°C and mean annual precipitation of 1000 mm. 

ii. Humid Sub-tropical Zone The zone covers whole of Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts, major part of Mandi district, Nahan of Sirmaur district, Nalagarh, Dere Gopipur and Nurpur tehsils of Kangra district. Mean annual temperature varies from 20-24°C and mean annual precipitation is 1,180 to 1,900 mm.

iii, Wet Temperate Zone:- This zone comprises of Palampur, Dharamshala areas of Kangra, Jogindarnagar arca of Chamba and Mandi district. The mean annual temperature varies from 15-19°C and 2,500 to 3,900 mm is the mean annual rainfall. This zone receives highest rainfall. 

iv. Humid Temperate Zone:- Parts of Mandi, Solan, Chamba, Kangra, Sirmaur, Kullu and Shimla districts come under this zone. The mean annual temperature ranges from a minimum of 13°C to a maximum of 18°C with an average annual rainfall of 1,000 to 2,500 mm. 

v. Sub-humid Temperate Alpine Highlands:- It includes major parts of Lahaul Spiti, Pangi and Kinnaur areas. The average annual temperature is 13* Cand rainfall is 600 mm. The rainfall is mostly received in the form of a snowfall. 

vi. Frigid Aridic Zone:- This zone covers Spiti sub-division of Lahaul and Spiti district, parts of Chamba and Kinnaur areas. The mean annual temperature is 13° C and the annual rainfall average is about 250 mm. In this zone also, snowfall is a common occurrence Seasons of Himachal Pradesh
