HP GK:-Himachal Pradesh is inhabited in the Western Himalayan mountain range. It extends from the latitudes 30°22’40” North to 33°12’40” North and longitudes 75°45’55” East to 79°04’20” East. The boundaries of Himachal Pradesh are 1170 km which are in the south of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, From Jammu and Kashmir in the north, Punjab in the west, Tibet (China) in the east and Uttarakhand in the south-east. H.P. is 270 km wide. Districts touching the boundaries of other countries / states are-

1. China (Tibet): Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti (200 km long border line)

2. Uttrakhand: Kinnaur, Shimla, Sirmaur

3. Haryana: Solan, Sirmaur

4. Punjab: Solan, Bilaspur, Una, Kangra, Chamba (Most)

HP GK:-Area and Population: The total area of H.P. is 55,673 sq km. This is 1.7% of the area of India. From the point of view of the area, in the 29 states of the country (Telangana after construction) Himachal Pradesh is at 18th place. According to the Census of 2011, the population of H.P. is 68, 56,509. This is the 0.57% of country’s population. It is worth mentioning here that in 2001 the population of H.P. was 0.59% of country’s population i.e. in 2011 it has fallen. In terms of population, H.P. is on 21st place in 28 states. H.P. Overall (28 states + 8 union territary = 36) is in the 22nd position because Delhi is not the state which has more population than the H.P.

HP GK:-Himachal Pradesh was organised on April 15, 1948, with the intervation of 30 small and big princely states. Himachal Pradesh was the Chief Commissioner’s Province from 1948 to 1951. From 1951 to 1956 Himachal Pradesh became a part ‘C’ state. Himachal Pradesh was made a Union Territory from 1956 to 1971. It was ultimately granted full statehood on January 25, 1971 and it became the 18th state of the country.

HP Samanya gyan:-In Himachal Pradesh mainly 5 rivers are Chenab, Ravi, Beas, Sutlej and Yamuna flows, out of which Sutlej is the longest in Himachal Pradesh and the Yamuna is considered to be the smallest of the five rivers of Himachal Pradesh. On the basis of the water-density, Chenab is the largest river in Himachal Pradesh.

Sirmaur is the southernmost district of Himachal Pradesh, then Kinnaur East, Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti, are situated in the north and Kullu and Mandi are situated in the middle. Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una and Kangra are situated in the western part of Himachal
