Green Energy Corridor (GEC) projects have been undertaken to facilitate renewable energy and reorient the grid for future requirements. The first component of the scheme inter-state GEC with a target capacity of 3200 circuit kilometers of transmission lines and sub-stations with a capacity of 17,000 MW was completed in March 2020. The second component—the interstate GEC with a target capacity of 9,700 km of transmission lines and sub-stations with a capacity of 22,600 MW, is expected to be completed by May 2021. At present, all efforts are focused on strengthening institutions, resources and protocols and investing judiciously in grid infrastructure. A total of 7175 km of transmission lines have been constructed and sub-stations with a total capacity of 7825 MW have been charged.
