हिमाचल प्रदेश पश्चिमी हिमालय पर्वत-शृंखला में बसा हुआ है।
हिमाचल 75°-47-55″ तथा 79-04-20″ रेखांश पूर्व और 30-22-40″ तथा 33°-12-40″ अक्षांश उत्तर के मध्य स्थित है।
हिमाचल प्रदेश की सीमाएँ 1170 किमी. हैं, जो दक्षिण में हरियाणा और उत्तर प्रदेश. उत्तर में जम्मू-कश्मीर से, पश्चिम में पंजाब से, पूर्व में तिब्बत (चीन), तथा दक्षिण-पूर्व में उत्तराखण्ड से लगती हैं।
हि.प्र. की चौड़ाई 270 किमी. है।
किन्नौर और लाहौल-स्पीति जिले (200 किमी. लंबी सीमा रेखा) चीन (तिब्बत) की सीमा को स्पर्श करते है।
किन्नौर, शिमला, सिरमौर जिले उत्तरखण्ड की सीमा को स्पर्श करते है।
सोलन, सिरमौर जिले हरियाणा की सीमा को स्पर्श करते है।
सोलन, बिलासपुर, ऊना, काँगड़ा, चम्बा जिले पंजाब की सीमा को स्पर्श करते है।
पंजाब राज्य की सीमा हि.प्र. के सर्वाधिक 5 जिलों को स्पर्श करती है।
हि.प्र. के कांगड़ा और मण्डी जिले सर्वाधिक 6 जिलों की सीमाओं को स्पर्श करते हैं जबकि चम्बा और सिरमौर न्यूनतम 2 जिलों की सीमाओं को स्पर्श करते हैं।

The boundaries of Himachal Pradesh are 1170 km. Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the south. It is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir in the north, Punjab in the west, Tibet (China) in the east, and Uttarakhand in the southeast.
Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts (200 km long boundary line) touch the border of China (Tibet).
Kinnaur, Shimla, Sirmaur districts touch the border of Uttarakhand.
Solan, Sirmour district touches the border of Haryana.
Solan, Bilaspur, Una, Kangra, Chamba districts touch the border of Punjab.
Punjab State Border H.P. touches maximum 5 districts of HP
The district of Kangra and Mandi touches the boundaries of maximum 6 districts while Chamba and Sirmaur touches the boundaries of minimum 2 districts.
