HPPSC Assistant Professor Anthropology Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 5 Posts

The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) has released Advertisement No. 61/9-2026 for the recruitment of Assistant Professor (College Cadre) Anthropology, Group-A (Job-Trainee) in the Department of Higher Education, Himachal Pradesh. A total of 5 Unreserved (UR) posts are available under this recruitment. The advertisement is dated 19 September 2026.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have a good academic record with at least 55% marks, or an equivalent grade, at the Master’s Degree level in the relevant subject from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from a foreign university recognized by the Government of India.

• A 5% relaxation in Master’s Degree marks, from 55% to 50%, is provided for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) categories.
• A 5% relaxation, from 55% to 50%, is provided at Master’s level to physically and visually handicapped persons as specified in the advertisement.
• A 5% relaxation, from 55% to 50%, is provided to Ph.D. degree holders who passed their Master’s Degree before September 1991.
• Grade ‘B’ in the seven-point grading scale is treated as equivalent to 55%.
• Candidates must have cleared the UGC/CSIR NET or a similar eligibility test accredited by the State Public Service Commission, subject to the conditions mentioned in the advertisement.

The advertisement also specifies certain Ph.D. exemptions from NET/SLET/SET for candidates registered for M.Phil./Ph.D. programmes before 11 July 2009, subject to the listed conditions.

Desirable Qualification

Knowledge of the customs, manners and dialects of Himachal Pradesh and suitability for appointment in the peculiar conditions prevailing in the state is desirable.

Age Limit

The prescribed age limit is 18 to 45 years. The age of candidates will be calculated as on 1 January 2026.

A five-year upper-age relaxation is admissible to Bonafide SC, ST, OBC, WFF and persons with disabilities of Himachal Pradesh, subject to the conditions and availability of reservation mentioned in the advertisement. Age relaxation for eligible Himachal Pradesh Government employees and Ex-Servicemen is governed by applicable Government instructions.

Application Fee

The advertisement prescribes a uniform examination fee of ₹600 for all candidates irrespective of category or gender.

The fee can be paid online through Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI or another prescribed online digital mode. The examination fee is non-refundable.

Selection Process

The recruitment process includes the following stages:

For Assistant Professor recruitment, the Commission will conduct two written papers followed by a Personality Test.

Paper-I Exam Pattern

Paper-I is a 100-mark objective-type test of one hour duration. It may be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT) or Offline Screening Test and includes negative marking.

Paper-II Exam Pattern

Paper-II is a Descriptive Subject Aptitude Test (SAT) of 3 hours carrying 120 marks. Its syllabus will be decided by the Commission and the detailed syllabus will be uploaded on the official website.

Negative Marking

There is negative marking in objective-type screening tests. For every wrong answer, one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. A question left blank also attracts the same penalty under the stated examination rules. Candidates can use option ‘E’ where they do not wish to answer a question and want to avoid negative marking.

Personality Test

The Personality Test carries 30 marks and is conducted at the Commission’s office in Shimla. The minimum qualifying marks are 40% (12 marks) for General category candidates and 30% (9 marks) for reserved-category candidates.

The marks obtained in the 120-mark Subject Aptitude Test and the 30-mark Personality Test are used to determine the final ranking/selection, subject to the conditions specified by the Commission.
