Online applications are invited for the post of a Project Associate – (One-JRF) in a SERB funded research project

. Title of the project: Roles for small heat shock proteins in protective protein aggregation and proteome protection

Short description of the research project: Proper maintenance of cellular proteome is essential for cell viability. Protein quality control systems monitor and protect the cellular proteomes. Molecular chaperones or heat shock proteins (HSPs) play important roles in maintaining and protecting the cellular protein homeostasis (proteostasis). Failure to maintain it result in protein misfolding and aggregation, which is a hallmark for number of age-related diseases. Small HSPs are ATPindependent chaperones which are induced by heat shock and other stresses to protect cells. They are implicated in regulating a large number of fundamental cellular processes and are involved in many pathological diseases including aging. It has been reported that small HSPs are involved in regulating the life span and their abundance levels increase during aging. Specific small HSPs are enriched in the insoluble proteome, implying their involvement in protective aggregation response during aging. Whether it is co-aggregation or active sequestration as a protective strategy and their functional relevance is remained to be identified. Aim of this project is to characterize novel functions of small HSPs as protectors of proteome and connection to protein quality control pathways using C. elegans as a model organism.

Minimum Qualifications: MSc / MTech in related branch of life Sciences with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA. Candidates with NET/GATE qualification and/or experience in working with model organisms, molecular biology and biochemical methods will be given preference in shortlisting for interview.

Fellowship: Maximum Rs. 31,000/- per month as per guidelines (subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria).

Duration: Initially for one year with possibility of extension up to 3 years. The position may be converted to a full time Ph.D. position, subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria and satisfactory performance.

3. Details of online interview: The interview will be held online via Webex/Google Meet; date and time of the interview along with the meeting link will be shared by email to only shortlisted candidates.

The decision of the selection committee regarding the interview logistics and selection process for the aforementioned post will be final.
The selected candidates will need to join the position immediately. Students should have all documents in original to support their resume and the same will be verified at the time of joining, if the candidate is selected.
