This chapter deals with questions in which series of number or alphabetical letters are given, which ar generally called as terms of the series. These terms follow a certain pattern throughout. The candidate is required to recognise this pattern and either complete the given series with the most suitable alternative or find the wrong term in the series.
TYPE 1: COMPLETING SERIES ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES
Ex.1. Which number would replace question mark in the series 2, 7, 14, 23, ?, 47

Sol. The given sequence is +5, +7, +9,………. i.e. 2+5=7; 7+7= 14; 14+9=23 So, missing number=23+11=34 Hence, the answer is (b)
Ex.2. Complete the series : 4, -8, 16, -32, 64 (….)

Sol. Clearly, each number in the series is the preceding number multiplied by -2. So, missing term=64 (-2)=-128. Hence, the answer is (b).
