Sports Award in Himachal Pradesh:-

Parshuram Award :-

Himachal Pradesh’s highest sporting honor is the Parshuram Award. The award carries a citation, a statue of Parshuram and a cash prize.

Arjuna Award –

Many players of Himachal Pradesh have received Arjuna Award so far. Suman Rawat (Athlete) received the Arjuna Award in 1987. She is the first female player of the state to have received this award. Samaresh Jung shooter and Sita Gosain (former Women’s Hockey Captain) have received the Arjuna Award. Charanjit Singh of Una was the captain of the hockey team that won the Hockey Gold Medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 and was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1963. Vijay Kumar received the Arjuna Award in 2007. Deepak Thakur (Hockey player) has also received the Arjuna Award.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award –

Born (August 19, 1985) in Harsaur village of Barsar sub-division of Hamirpur, Vijay Kumar is the first and only Himachali to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, India’s highest sports award. He received this award in the year 2012 when he won a silver medal in the London Olympics 2012, 25m rapid fire pistol event. He is the first and only Himachali to win a medal in the individual event of the Olympics. The Department of Youth Affairs and Sports was formed in the year 1982 to promote sports in Himachal Pradesh.
