Himachal tops in making Aadhaar cards for children below 5 years of age

Himachal Pradesh is leading in the country in terms of Aadhaar enrolment of children below five years of age. The national average is 39 per cent, while the state has achieved the target of 56 per cent coverage. This information came to light during a review meeting of Aadhaar progress. Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena chaired a review meeting of Aadhaar progress with the heads of government departments and the Unique Identification Authority of India here on Friday. The Chief Secretary launched face authentication in the Public Distribution System in the presence of UIDAI Deputy Director General Dheeraj Sareen and other secretaries. He directed all departments, including DDT&G, Postal Department and School Education, to activate all Aadhaar enrolment kits at the earliest and ensure utilisation of available resources to achieve 100 per cent success in the state.

The state has made significant progress in the last three months and the number of pending biometrics has come down from 5.5 lakh to 4.75 lakh. The Department of Digital Technology and Governance in collaboration with the Education Department has organized camps in schools to cover biometric updates. The Chief Secretary has also directed private schools to cover the age group of 5 to 15 years with a view to reducing the pending cases of biometric updates.
