HPRCA Scientific Assistant (Document & Photography) Syllabus & Exam Pattern
Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog (HPRCA), Hamirpur has released the detailed syllabus for the Laboratory Assistant / Scientific Assistant (Document & Photography) examination. Candidates preparing for this post should go through the complete syllabus given below, which is based on Graduation level along with General Awareness.
1. Subjects up to Graduation Level
A. Forensic Science
- Introduction to Forensic Science: Definition, history & development, scope, forensic laboratories in India, ethics & responsibilities, crime scene management, types of evidence, chain of custody, quality control, Frye & Daubert standards.
- Criminal Justice System & New Laws: Police, prosecution & judicial structure, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Bharatiya Shakshya Adhiniyam.
- Questioned Document Examination: Types of documents, specimen standards, handling & preservation, natural variations, forged & genuine documents, inks, papers, toners, age determination, ESDA, VSC, stereo microscopes.
- Forensic Handwriting Examination: Writing characteristics, signatures, forgeries, anonymous letters, sequence of strokes, forensic linguistics.
- Printer & Printing Matter: Printing processes, typewriters, printers (inkjet, laser, thermal), photocopies, fax, scanned documents, counterfeit notes.
- Alterations & Security Documents: Erasures, overwriting, obliterations, charred documents, seals, stamps, passports, visas, identity cards, digital signatures.
- Spectroscopy: Electromagnetic spectrum, UV, Visible, IR, fluorescence, phosphorescence, forensic applications.
- Photography: Black & white and colour photography, cameras & lenses, digital photography, videography, crime scene photography, photographic detectors.
- Advanced Spectroscopic Techniques: UV-Visible, Fluorescence, Phosphorescence, IR, Raman, Atomic Absorption, ICP-AES, NMR.
- Microscopy: Simple, compound, comparison, phase contrast, stereo, SEM, TEM, AFM, STM.
- Chromatography & Electrophoresis: Paper, TLC, HPLC, GC, ion-exchange, affinity chromatography, capillary electrophoresis.
- Lasers: Gas, solid-state, chemical & semiconductor lasers, beam properties, resonators, Gaussian beam optics.
- Statistics & Report Writing: Mean, median, mode, dispersion, probability, hypothesis testing, correlation, forensic report writing, court testimony.
B. Chemistry
- Atoms, molecules, mole concept, IUPAC nomenclature
- Organic reagents (Grignard, LiAlH4, BF3, NBS, OsO4)
- UV-Visible & IR Spectroscopy
- Mass Spectrometry (EI, CI, FAB, TOF-MALDI)
- Photochemistry & Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR)
- Molecular Spectroscopy & Atomic Structure
- Periodic properties, Metal-ligand bonding
- Analytical, Nuclear & Inorganic Photochemistry
- Spectrophotometry & Chromatographic techniques
C. Physics
- Measurement, uncertainty, Z-score
- Electrostatics & Current Electricity
- Electromagnetic waves & Wave Optics
- Diffraction, Polarization, Interference
- Vector spaces & matrices
- Rigid body dynamics & kinematics
- Quantum mechanics (Matrix formulation)
- Superconductivity & Dielectric properties
