About five hundred hydropower projects in Himachal Pradesh have been allocated in the private sector. Out of them, some projects having hydroelectric generation capacity of 10 MW or more have been described. Due to the commencement of hydropower schemes, there has been a good impact on the economy of the state. Following are the major schemes of the state:
1. Sanjay Vidyut Project or Bhaba Project:
The project is implemented at Huri village or Khadad in Kinnaur district . It has three units. A total of 120 MW of electricity is being produced from 40 MW each. It is estimated to cost 125.22 crores. In this project, the water of Bhava Khad was taken from a 5.7 km long, 2.5 meter diameter tunnel and placed in a 4.5 meter diameter Sarjshaft in three branches of 1.5 meter diameter made of 1410 meter long iron shaft and dumped in underground power house. is. Now this plan has been completed.
2. Andhra Hydel Project:
The project has been prepared in Andra village near Chadgaon in Chadgaon tehsil of Rohdu subdivision of Shimla district . There are three units of 5.65 MW under this project. The total power generation capacity of the project is 16.95 MW .
3. Rong Tong Hydel Project:
The project has been implemented to generate electricity from the water of Rong-Tong Nallah, a tributary of the Spiti River, in Lahaul-Spiti . It is generating 2 MW of electricity. It became operational in December 1986. The specialty of this scheme is that it has been prepared at an altitude of 3660 meters above sea level.
4. Binwa Hydel Project:
The project has been implemented in Uttarala near Baijnath in Kangra district . It has a capacity to produce 6 MW . The 12.32 million rupees have been.
5. Gaj Project:
It has been implemented for watering yards and Lyon Khad near Shahpur in Kangra district. This will generate 10.5 MW of electricity. It cost about 40 crores rupees. A power house has been built near the village of Bidhari on the side of Gaj Khad.
6. Baner Project:
The project was implemented with the water of Baner Khad , 25 km from Dharamshala . This will generate 12.5 MW of electricity. It is estimated to cost Rs 40.54 crore. Both these schemes have been launched in May-June 1996.
7. Thirot Project:
This project was implemented at an altitude of 2970 meters above sea level in the water of Thorot drain in Lahaul valley of Lahaul-Spiti district. It is generating 4.5 MW of electricity.
8. Larji Hydel Project:
The project was implemented in Kullu district at a place called Taraji, a little away from Bhuntar, with the water of Beas river. Under this, a 45.3 meter high dam has been made and the water has been taken down by taking it from a tunnel of 15 km long and 8.5 meter diameter. This is generating 126 MW of electricity.
9. KOL Dam Project:
The project is being implemented by constructing 163 m high Rakfil Dam at a place called Kol , 6 km above Dahar on the Sutlej River . The water will be dumped into the power house on the left bank of the Sutlej River by a 1-meter long tunnel of 11.7 meters diameter. The project will generate 800 MW of electricity and will cost approximately Rs 5360 crore. It is being implemented by Shanal Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
10. Nathpa-Jhakhari Project:
This is the biggest project of the state so far, which is generating 1500 MW power. An estimated expenditure of 6,000 crores is estimated on this project. It has been jointly commissioned by the state and central government with World Bank assistance. An independent corporation Nathpa-Jhakri Nigam (NJPC) was formed for implementation, now renamed as ‘Satluj Jal Ni Nigam’ (SJVN Ltd.).

12. Ghanvi Project:
The project is being implemented with water from the Ghanti Khad from the Sutlej River near Jyori, which will generate 22.5 MW of electricity and is estimated to cost Rs 95 crore. It has been given to the private sector for implementation.
13. Baspa Hydel Project:
The project will be implemented in two phases from the waters of Baspa , a tributary of the Sutlej . This will generate 300 MW power.
14. Dhamawari-Sunda Project:
It will be implemented with water from Pabbar River in Shimla district. This will generate 70 MW of electricity and it is estimated to cost Rs 150 crore.
15. Chamera Hydel Project:
The Chamera Hydel Project is being implemented by constructing a dam on the Ravi river near the village named Rakh in Chamba. It will be implemented in three phases. It will also have a part of Himachal Pradesh. In this project, water will be taken from a 22 km tunnel and dropped from a height of 411 meters. This will generate 540 MW in the first phase, 300 in the second phase and 231 MW in the third phase.
16. Parbati Hydel Project:
The project will be implemented with the water of Parvati river of Kullu . The project will be completed in three phases. This will generate 2051 MW power. 750 MW in the first phase, 800 MW in the second phase and 501 MW in the third phase.
17. Rampur Project:
